What to Expect:

Video / Phone Sessions

After you book your appointment, you will receive an email with all the instructions you need to get started. You will open the Jane App online portal which is used for filling out forms and booking sessions; please complete the intake/confidentiality form prior to your first session. If you are meeting with your therapist by video, the proxy link (https://doxy.me) needed to attend your session will be in your video appointment confirmation e-mail. If you are meeting by phone, your therapist will call you at the time of you appointment. We have tried to make the process as secure and easy as possible, so you can focus on what is most important - getting the help you need.

An advantage of video/phone therapy is that you get to decide what the right space is for you. As long as you feel safe, comfortable, and confident that your confidentiality will be maintained, almost anywhere works. We have connected with clients in their homes, on secluded park benches, in their vehicle, or in their office. TeleHealth counselling provides a convenience and sense of control that can make it the perfect experience for some clients.

A potential drawback of electronic counselling is the lack of availability to read each other’s body language and pick up on subtle changes in the energy in the room. This could lead to unintentional misunderstandings by both the therapist and the client. As a result, it is very important that both you and your therapist raise issues that might be related to misunderstanding or miscommunications.

What do you need to effectively use video counselling?

Depending on your therapist's preference, either Jane App or Doxy.me will be used to provide online counselling services. Both services allow us to provide secure telehealth video sessions. You can use either platform from your computer, mobile phone or tablet.

If the e-connection is slow or suddenly stops working, this can be very stressful, as you cannot connect with your therapist. If technology stops working during your session, your therapist will attempt to reach you by phone so the session can be continued.

Here is some helpful information for your online appointment:

  • Use Google Chrome and make sure to allow both video and microphone access. Please test your connection prior to your session to make sure they are working appropriately.

  • Test your Network:

    • The speed of your network is critical to an effective online counselling session. The faster your network, the fewer chances there will be a break in therapy due to technical issues. This will provide a more immersive session from both sides.

    • If your network upload speeds are poor (less than 1 Mbps download or upload), you should contact your local cable company or phone company to see if a faster internet connection is available in your area.
